Quitting Smoking: Day 2.5
10.03.2007 06:22 AM
For the second day, I'm update at 4:30 in the morning having a nicotine fit. Seems like lack of sleep is going to be normal for the first few days I guess. The last time I had Nicorette gum was at 9'ish yesterday morning. So almost a complete 24 hours now without any nicotine. I guess the magic number is 72 hours for most of the nicotine to be out of your system. So for would be quitters, here's something that is working for me. It seems kind of corny but I've been listening to Jeffrey Thompson's Music For Brainwave Massage 2.0, Amazon Link, whenever I get a cigarette craving. And it's working for me. I would also recommend that you buy and read this book by Allen Car, The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, Amazon. He gets bashed sometimes but overall I think the book is effective at helping you get through quitting. Here's a tip though, don't read the book unless you are really serious about quitting. If you think this book is going to make you want to quit then don't waste your money. There are 3 Comments for Quitting Smoking: Day 2.5
Good Luck! I've been a smoker for over 10 years. I've quit 3 times. First time was for about 6 months. Second time I lasted a year. I'm on the third time and I've gone about 6 months so far.
First time I quit was cold turkey. Second time I did the hypnosis and it worked. I walked out of the seminar and didn't have a cigarette for a year. This last time I quit cold turkey with a friend after trying to do the hypnosis again with no luck (only lasted 2 weeks).
I can say this last time was the easiest, which is quite strange. I made the decision to quit on Thursday night, so I spent Fri/Sat/Sun in withdrawal. After that, it was getting over the habits; cig when you wake up, cig after meals, cig after movie, cig while out having drinks, etc. That to me was the hardest part. Having a friend to quit with made things a bit easier.
To me, the gum tasted nasty and the point is to get away from not only the poison in the cigs, but the nicotine as well.
So good luck to you!

I used the Carr technique: the book was appallingly written, almost unreadable, but it nearly worked. So I plonked down 200 quid for the day-long seminar version, and it was the easiest thing in the world then. Some mild withdrawal, and no 'social smoking' withdrawal either. And I was a 10-year 40-a-day smoker. That was 18 months ago and I haven't looked back.
The best 200 quid I've spent, ever.
